Enhance the quality, purity, and intensity of your natural dye creations with our premium plant dye extracts. Our extracts contain only the purest, most vibrant colors, unlike dry plant materials which are commonly referred to as 'dyestuff'. With a ratio of just 3% extract to the dry weight of the fiber, you can achieve medium-dark hues with ease.

To ensure permanent and saturated color, it is crucial to apply the proper washing and mordanting techniques to your fiber before dyeing. We recommend consulting our mordanting kits, specifically designed for various fibers such as cotton (all plant fibers), wool, and silk, for detailed instructions on the mordanting process. All are available in our shop.

All of our plant dye extracts are certified by GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) ensuring the highest level of organic quality. With our extracts, you can take your natural dyeing to the next level, and create truly unique and vibrant pieces that stand out. Unleash the endless possibilities of natural dyeing and elevate your craft with our premium plant dye extract set.

HOW TO DYE:

Our natural dye extracts are in powder form and water-soluble (except for indigo). They can be used for any type of dyeing, including printing, in any application where water-based paints are used.

To use, dissolve your dye in warm water, then dip your pre-mordanted fiber into the dye bath and heat until the desired color is achieved. The intensity of the color will depend on the amount of dye used and the length of time the fiber is left in the dye bath. It is important to note that the amount of water used is not critical, as long as the fiber is able to move freely in the dye bath. The amount of dye to use is a personal preference, but generally, a ratio of 3% of the dry weight of the fiber will produce vibrant colors.

Natural dyeing is an incredible realm of endless possibilities that always encourages experimentation. Rather than focusing on a specific outcome, embrace the process of dyeing as a collaboration between you, the dye plants, the fiber, the water, the heat, and all other factors that affect the color. One quick tip: using different mordants, such as ferrous sulfate or copper sulfate, can produce variations in color.
